2 Door Jeep Cherokee (versus 4 door)



The Jeep Cherokee Power Window Regulator Repair Kit was designed to fix the 4 door version of the 1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee. However, in many cases, it will fix the 2 door version as well. This page explains the difference between the 2 door and 4 door regulators, and shows how to determine whether this kit will work to fix your 2 door Cherokee's regulator. The 2 door regulator is similar to the 4 door, except that whereas the 4 door has only one window bracket that attaches to the window, the 2 door version has two brackets. (This is probably why the 2 door version does not fail anywhere near as much as the 4 door version; even though the window is larger, the load is spread across two brackets instead of just one.)

In the photo to the right, you can see what the 2 door regulator looks like, and you can see which parts I am referring to as the "main bracket" and the "secondary bracket". In the pictures which are attached, the main bracket has broken, but the plastic connection on the secondary bracket is still intact.


Below, you fill find close-up photos of the main bracket and the secondary bracket. Note that in the photos, the plastic piece is broken on the main bracket, but is still intact on the secondary bracket.


In order to determine if the repair kit will work on your 2 door, you will need to remove the window regulator from your vehicle and check to see whether it is the main bracket or the secondary bracket which has broken. If it is the main bracket, then you are in luck as this kit which is designed to fix the 4 door bracket is a direct bolt-on to fix the 2 door main bracket. However, if it is the secondary bracket which has broken, then it is less clear. The repair bracket which I sell is designed to bolt through the hole which was occupied by a rivet which is drilled out during the installation process, however no such hole exists on the secondary bracket. To be honest, I'm not even sure if there is a proper metal surface underneath there to be able to drill a hole for the bracket. In any case, some modification or fabrication would be required to use this kit to repair the secondary bracket, but like I already mentioned, if its the main bracket which is broken, the kit will work as-is to fix that one. (Of course, the installation instructions, which are for the 4 door version, would not apply 100% as there are no doubt some small differences between the 2 and 4 door, but these should be minor and easy to adapt to.)

In every case where someone with a 2 door has contacted me to inquire about purchasing a repair kit, it was the main bracket which failed, so the odds appear to be in your favor. I have sold several kits to the owners of 2 door Cherokees to repair their main brackets and the kit has been a 100% bolt-on and worked perfectly to do so.

Note: Although I do not have personal experience with using my repair kit to repair the secondary bracket, I have had reports from customers who said that they were able to use my repair kit to do just that. So, if you are handy it is indeed possible to adapt my repair kit to fix either of the 2 door brackets.
